Victoria Beckham Talks VVB
“There I am walking across the road,” Victoria Beckham points to the London vista that paints itself out across a silver-grey dress. She’s in town – London, appropriately - to talk through her Victoria Victoria Beckham line, which although it started out as a semi-younger-sister line to her eponymous label shown in New York, has, she says very much developed into its own category. “It’s doing phenomenally well,” she enthuses - as fashion editors inspecting the rail do too. “I love this shirt,” gushes one, another picking out the collegiate references for the cardigans and embroidery. It all seems to chime.

“It’s very much what I’m wearing,” explains Beckham, who seems to have a clear understanding that how she dresses is how quite a lot of other women want to dress, too “I’m very influenced by tailoring this season, the clean lines, there’s the fun print influenced by the movies Drive and Nightcrawler.” The denim is smart and akin to tailored pieces, again, just as she would wear it.
“Sophisticated”, “playful” and “cool” are the buzzwords wafting around the room as another piece from the collection is singled out for adoration. “VVB this season, she [the girl] is from London or she’s a tourist doodling,” she describes of one such piece, a jumper boasting illustrated heads woven across it – it’s a humorous and easy piece to wear. “It’s really cool for print and that’s always been a strong part of the collection.”
Shots of pink among grey, it’s a tight edit which sees the VVB girl grow up just the right amount, so that pieces here could slip just as easily in and out of her mainline collection. “It’s important for me that all of my categories go hand in hand. Ready-to-wear was inspired by London, my heritage,” she sums up.
