Versace Ready To Wear Fall Winter 2017 Milan
A wave of mutating colours engulf the minimal setting. Shaker rhythms start to pulse through the room. “Equality, equality, equality” a voice repeats obsessively over a song by Peder Mennerfelt. The musical message merges with Versace’s manifesto, reiterated and embroidered on dresses and accessories: Love, Courage, Loyalty. Words that have an exciting energy to them, remixed in an urban context with a mash-up of other influences. Romantic, street, sporty. Looked at through dark eyes, from behind hip hop style hoods that crown tousled manes filled with contrasting colourful hair extensions. “I decided to look at lots of themes, not just one, because it wouldn’t have been modern,” Donatella Versace explained to MFF backstage. Abandoning her celebrated seductive silhouettes and transforming them into shimmering sirens with a message. Lines are longer and looser, somewhere between masculine and feminine, jackets with rounded shoulders, large parkas and quilted down jackets paired with light embroidered chiffon. Double layered skirts and skirts in voile. Faded knits. Floral cut outs and appliqué. Oversize shearling coats and furs that change colour. And the sparkling eveningwear, from crystal inserts to little metallic slips, all ultra light and in vitamin hues to match the hair extensions. Flaming. Diabolical.
