Vera Wang Ready To Wear Spring Summer 2016 New York
Vera Wang was in something of a naughty mood this season. Her show notes for her Spring/Summer 2016 collection read like an abbreviated haiku about a forbidden dalliance.
"Belle du Jour"
Desire — Duality — Decadence
Unfortunately, her sensual premise did make it all the way onto the catwalk. Instead of looking alluring, most of this collection was weighted down by exaggerated volume, a rather inexplicable use of feather embellishment, and an abundance of banal sports bras paired with sheer tops, covered in Swarovski crystals, or simply worn on their own.
The mostly all black show started off well enough. The first look, which interestingly reworked a part of men's trousers into a high-waisted brief and a trench coat cut from tuxedo fabric, were a saucy mix. But things went quickly downhill from there. The show slanted much more sporty than sexy. And when dresses started to filter into the show, they strangely featured volume just at the front or were so voluminous they hung away from the body, eliminating any curving forms.
Wang has made millions creating dream wedding dresses for the most important day in the lives of thousands of women around the world. But it's not going to be this collection that will keep husbands interested, let alone a lover.
