Louis Vuitton Menswear Spring Summer 2015 Paris

It is a well known fashion fact that Kim Jones is an expert world traveler. Even growing up he was always on the go with his hydrogeologist father. It's this explorative spirit that makes Jones such a good fit at Louis Vuitton. After all, the luxury brand is founded on it's clientele's wanderlust desire.

This season Jones came up with the clever concept of combining the regal elegance of Rajasthan in northern India with that of Air Force gear.  Said out loud this fusion sounds rather far fetched but Jones made a fine job of mixing the traditional bright Indian colors of orange and fuchsia, and even Shisha mirrored embroidery, with staple military styles. Each starting point helping to temper the connotations of the other.

For example, a bomber jacket was cut in a reversible orange satin and a zipper adorned jumpsuit was crafted from washed silk voile in hot pink. Granted those two pieces also showed up in more commercial options, say a flight suit in beige nubuck or bombers in navy or sage green. But it was the brighter styles, and their mini mirrored alternatives that were the strongest statement pieces in the show.

Elsewhere the balance between rigor and refinement was well executed on trousers fitted to the natural waist and chevron patterned shirts that hinted at ranking insignia found on military uniforms. An idea echoed in a stainless steel brooch pined to the collar of a jacket and even a khaki cotton ribbed v-neck sweater with silk shoulder patches made a subtle reference to armed forces.

Jones also looked to be enjoying  putting the accessories department through its paces. Offering up a number of functional yet special pieces. There was everything from guitar and record cases to an entirely new "V bag" collection designed to be multifunctional for a modern man constantly on the go.
