Dolce & Gabbana Menswear Spring Summer 2018 Milan
Love – the good, the bad and the ugly – seems to have inspired two major Italian fashion houses this season, unconsciously putting them in a Baz Luhrmann-esque face-off: two households, both alike in dignity, in fair Milan where we lay our scene. Inside Dolce & Gabbana’s House of Cards
by Stefano Roncato - MFFashion
A gigantic ex-voto stands out on from the background, an intense red. Bleeding, it lights up. It is a sacred heart, as Ferzan Ozptek would call it. An ode to love for Dolce & Gabbana. In the name of love, celebrated in the music by Martin Garrix, accompanying the show and literally crowning a new cool crowd. They are young artists, influencers, actors, children of celebrities and music icons from all over the world. Social media lovers and idols of the new generation. From Tuki, the grandson of Marlon Brando, to Tyler, the nephew of Bill Clinton. Because this is a house of cards built with fun, light hearted symbols. They are young and powerful. The crowns that appeared in the house’s regal show in January, proclaiming the first appearance of a royal mood that comes out in the careful selection of girls who aren’t looking for floor-length dresses, they already have a train of followers. Mixing Japanese prints, oversize streetwear, pyjamas and basketball vests, hypergraphic printed sportswear and tailored jackets. But the tailoring was double edged here - thanks to a secret show the night before which featured a selection of iconic male models. Instead, this show was for millennials, with a key theme that was embroidered on tops: Love is beauty.
