Dior Homme Menswear Spring Summer 2016 Paris

WATCH THE RUSH VIDEO OF THE DIOR HOMME FASHION SHOW SPRING SUMMER 2016

This season, designer Kris Van Assche decided to take the Dior Homme man down a garden path. On a crisscrossing catwalk framed by boxed white garden roses, Assche created a companion collection to his highly successful Fall/Winter 2014 Lilly of the Valley themed show.

Both of these white flowers have a crisp and clean purity about them. They are enticingly fragrant and their scent tends to linger in the mind long after the blooms have passed their prime. This collection, too, with its formal tailoring, elegant lines, and sharp color combinations of blues, orange, and olive green, along with a dash of yellow and a touch of red thrown into the mix, also had an unforgettable timelessness to it.

"In this collection, the dialogue with Christian Dior continues in a more abstract way," said the designer in the show’s program notes.

One would have to disagree with Assche on this point, because the connection to Dior's love of flowers was clearly present – both on the catwalk and in the show, with the white roses blooming as embroidered patches along the length of bomber jackets.

What was different and just as appealing as the smattering of flower embellished designs, were the garments that blended together the traditional business attire of a gentleman with the garments he would don on a weekend hunt on his country estate. The merging of an argyle sweater with a camouflage print was a clever coupling, and suits outfitted with multiple rip cord tipped zippers on jackets and cargo pocket pants was another astute combo. And does it get more upper crust luxe than a crocodile bomber jacket cut in hunter orange?

Assche gave the title "In All Disorder a Secret Order" to this show. But there was nothing in this collection that felt in any sort of disarray. And as far as order goes...Dior is going to be taking lots of them from buyers this season.
